Hello friends!

This communicator is actually for Episode 62. Oops! Since there was no new episode of the podcast last week (I’m working on something special for this week. Hint: it’s spoooooooky), I thought a Communicator that combines a peek at what I’ve been working on and some fun tidbits about Raelle Collar from our last episode would be just the ticket.

As the weather has turned chilly and rainy in my state, I’ve found myself hunkering down on the couch reading great books and watching cozy shows (check out Episode 61 for my recommendations), and starting some new ones.

  • If you’ve never noticed, braids are particularly prevalent in the S1 world of Motherland. Almost every character has some form of a braid. Raelle’s are most distinctive (I like to think about them as Viking-style braids and they do get much less complex in S2, with 3 simple half braids), but Alder has a form of braiding, as does Tally, Abigail, and Anacostia, among other characters. It seems some of that was dropped in S2.

  • Strength of a Healer Raelle Collar
  • Family (Only watch this one if you’ve seen all of S2 too. Major spoilers.)

💬 Favorite Raelle Collar Quote

"Some of your daughters may be called. But they will be in great company. And they will do things that they never thought were possible. Someone once told me that I had to let the Army make me strong. And she was right. The army saw something in me that I didn’t even know was there. Your daughters will be safe with us."
  • The reason I love this quote had absolutely everything to do with the sisterhood. Raelle before Fort Salem was lost, broken, and angry. The army had taken almost everything she cared about from her, but it was so incredibly powerful to see her recognize the sisterhood she now feels among her coven and the other witches there. And there’s so much power in that sisterhood and in recognizing that others may see something in you and help you grow when you couldn’t see that in yourself.

I can’t wait for you all to listen to the upcoming spooky episode this week. Have a great week, be kind to one another, and be awesome! Alright!
